San Diego, CA, Aug 30th, 2022, Entando, an open source application composition platform that enables fusion teams to better collaborate with business owners by composing low code applications from modular components, today announced that it was mentioned as a Sample Vendor in Gartner Hype Cycle™ for Cloud Platform Services, 2022*

“This Hype Cycle helps IT leaders understand the pace and viability of maturing and emerging cloud platform technologies, services and trends”.   In particular we believe Application Composition Platforms have established themselves as a significant trend for the future of application development. In our opinion, Entando, mentioned as a Sample Vendor, is aligned with this vision and provides significant benefits to accelerate development and reconfiguration, save cloud runtime costs, and streamline applications lifecycle management.

In the report, Gartner defines an Application Composition Platform as, “any development platform that supports: (1) a prepopulated catalog of composable, packaged, software components; (2) creation and cataloging of new packaged software components through custom development and importing existing assets; (3) democratized development and deployment of applications, assembled in part from the cataloged packaged components; (4) governance of the life cycle of the cataloged packages and the resulting composed applications. ''

Entando provides support for four stages of development, including Creation of packaged business capabilities, Curating of these components, Composition and Re-composition of applications from these components, and Consumption of the composed application, and has been adopted by enterprises worldwide, helping customers develop new applications or to modernize existing applications, leveraging a reusable component catalog.

In this Gartner report, they describe why application composition is important as: “Service and module access is now ubiquitous through REST API and event-driven support, allowing access to widespread commoditized services such as SaaS.  Businesses are looking to reuse before buying, and then build as a last resort due to the costs, risks and skills required in application development.  Reuse and speed of delivery - especially by business developers - is enabled through composability, which in turn is starting to appear as a focus in some application platforms.”  Equally important, Gartner mentions, “The platformization of the cloud is a reflection of the increasing depth in the way that mainstream organizations adopt and internalize the cloud-native way of thinking: everything is subject to continuous change and therefore everything is a platform for change.“

“With a focus on the acceleration of application development and reconfiguration, reduction in runtime costs, and streamlined application lifecycle maintenance and security“, stated Paul Hinz, CEO and CoFounder of Entando, Inc.  “Entando enables enterprises and integrators the ability to maximize their ROI in API ecosystems by increasing the discovery, reuse, and governance of their services and intellectual property.”

Entando recommends enterprises look for applications and modernization projects which can benefit from application composition technologies, and as mentioned in the Hype Cycle report, “Consider application composition platform technologies for digital business initiatives involving multiple services where innovation, experimentation and time to market will need to maximize reuse of building blocks and components. “
