Monday, 25th July 2022. In recent days of unprecedented events, some in Italy’s public sector has had to rethink the way they traditionally provide services, implementing new methods to meet the changing needs of citizens and businesses, and to do so quickly.
To improve the quality and accessibility of their digital services, they moved forward with new innovative tools funded by Italy’s recovery and resilience plan, PNRR, which supports the modernization and digitization of businesses and public organizations. The strategy required a review and update of the processes, and a redesign of their applications to reduce complexity and development costs, and streamline their life cycle and maintenance efforts.
The Entando Platform provided the tools and methods that allowed them to organize projects into modules, enabling the development of cloud-native and composable applications on Kubernetes. Each required functionality was built into a component by an independent team who could develop, deploy and update the components separately, to be reused on different solutions. Using this architecture accelerated release times, reduced development costs, and most importantly, optimized maintenance and innovation spending.
A new user friendly portal from composable application for Cagliari
The Municipality of Cagliari chose to adopt this “composable” paradigm, using the Entando Application Composition Platform as an accelerator to develop their new institutional portal and applications. Their purpose was not only to expand services to its constituency and improve access, but also to offer ready-made solutions to other administrations.
Ultimately, the paradigm shift provided a cloud-native portal that was able to rapidly adapt to the growing needs of the community with agility, flexibility and resilience. And above all, citizens found the portal to be useful and the services easier to access.
